Mont R. Chamberlain, 35, was named McConnellsburg Fire Co.’s

1991 Fireman of the Year at the company’s 30th annual banquet January 18. Chamberlain is an EMT for the company, an EMT instructor, the second lieutenant for the rescue and ambulance squad and a director of the ambulance club. He also serves as chairman of the bingo committee.

The swearing-in of members of the Fulton Conservation District Board highlighted the district’s annual luncheon held January 20. John Brady of Big Cove Tannery was re-appointed for a new four-year term. D. Gene Mellott was appointed to a fouryear term, Russell C. McLucas Jr. was appointed to a three-year term to fill the unexpired term of Richard Purnell of Wells Tannery, and Robert Garlock was re-appointed to another one-year term as commissioner representative on the board.

The grand champion steer at the PA Farm Show shattered previous sales records and was sold for $25,000 at the annual show. Hoss’s Steak and Sea House bought the steer at a price that topped the previous Farm Show record by $7,720. Jodie Weaver, 19, of Lancaster County, led her prize-winning steer around the ring until bids stalled at $11,000 and state Agriculture Secretary Boyd Wolff stepped in to take a try. The grand champion swine sold to Hatfield Quality Meats for $4,200.

Michael and Avon Stine, Chambersburg, would like to announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura, to Todd Fix, Hustontown, son of Phillip and Linda Fix.

Three area women garnered prizes in clothing and textiles competitions of the family living awards to place countians in the various events held at the PA Farm Show last week. Nettie Chubb took first place in garment crocheting, while Kay Miller took second in that category. Chubb also captured a second in home-related accessories, macrame items, while Miller took second in crocheting accessory and a third in skill in needlecraft. Betty Shelley took second in hand knitting; Linda Seiders second in spaghetti sauce; Christiana Booth second in the Guernsey youth class; Kevin Shafer third in Holstein youth class yearling; Justin Fischer fifth in Holstein youth class senior yearling; Amy Fischer 18th in Holstein junior calf; and Forbes Road High School took ninth in school exhibit awards.

Theodore and Tona (Feight) Brant, Mercersburg, announce the birth of a daughter, Hannah Nicole, January 5 at Chambersburg Hospital.

Tanya Harr of McConnellsburg and Greg Rife of Lemasters were united in marriage October 19 in Mercersburg Academy Chapel. The bride is the daughter of Max and Robin Harr of McConnellsburg. The groom is the son of Gary Sr. and Vicki Rife, Lemasters.
