Jennings M. Lynch

Somerset, 91

Jennings McCauley Lynch “Jiggs”, 91, Somerset, died Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Somerset Hospital.

Born July 19, 1920, in Mc- Connellsburg, Fulton County, he was the son of Jennings McCauley Lynch and Meta Fryman Lynch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Robert, David and Donald; and his loving wife of 62 years, Martha (Peck) Lynch.

He is survived by four sons: John Lynch, married to Joan, Zephyrhills, Fla.; William Lynch, married to Barbara, Somerset, and children Cory Folliard and husband Robert of Arlington, Va., and Jaret Lynch and wife Sarah of Hamden, Conn.; Gary Lynch, married to Nancy, Somerset, and children Michael Lynch and wife Sherry of Somerset; Major Andrew Lynch and wife Jessica of Schofield Barricks, Honolulu, Hawaii; Lauren Mosemann and husband Mark of Warfordsburg; Jessica VanGilder and husband Justin of Berlin; and Donald Lynch, married to Karen, with whom he resided in Zehnerville and son Jennings Lynch and wife Lisa of Somerset; his daughter, Mary, married to Joel Friedline, Somerset; and 13 greatgrandchildren.

He was a lieutenant and pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. As part of the 17th Squadron, 64th Group, 51st Wing of the 12th Air Force, he flew C-47s in North Africa, Italy and Southern France in 1944 and 1945. He worked for H.B. Mellott in McConnellsburg before and after the war and was involved in construction of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He formed the Coal Junction Coal Co. with Norman Critchfield in the early 1950s when he and Martha moved to Somerset County, and was a part owner until 1977.

In retirement, he became an avid golfer and enjoyed many years farming with his sons and heading to Florida in the trailer with Martha for the winter.

He will be missed by many, including dear friend and neighbor Doloros “Doris” Day, who helped care for him and kept him young and active these past years.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 12, at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. Rev. Gerald Deffenbaugh officiated. Interment was in Somerset County Memorial Park.
