Mellott Co., in a partnership with the Fulton County Area Vocational Technical School (FCAVTS) and the American Welding Society ( AWS), is pleased to announce that three Mellott Co. employees successfully completed the AWS Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS) training and examination in October 2011. The Mellott Co. employees achieving the certification were Dave Spense, Allen Spade and Jonas Smith. The employees spent a full week at a certified AWS instruction institute in Roanoke, Va., which culminated in a full day of examinations.

The training was conducted in accordance with the AWS Welder Workforce Development Grant received by the FCAVTS and coordinated by Elisa Ramsey, FCAVTS welding program instructor. Greg Walters, Mellott Co. operations manager, stated he is “grateful to FCAVTS for the opportunity to work with and learn from the AWS.” He further stated he is pleased with the progress Ramsey has made in helping to sharpen the skills of Mellott Co. employees and supervisors. “Elisa has impressed us with her welding knowledge and expertise, and we feel this has been a winwin win situation for Mellott Co., FCAVTS, and AWS.”

According to the AWS Web site, Mellott Co. received one of five awards granted nationwide. The Fulton County AVTS and Mellott Co. grant will also include three welding students to “complete AWS certifications and be hired by Mellott Co. upon successful completion of the program.”

Ramsey and nine AWS student chapter members attended the AWS annual Fabtech Expo in Chicago during November 2011.

Fabtech is billed as the “largest metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing event in North America.”
