Chalmer Hann was named Needmore Fire Co.’s Fireman of the

Year at the company’s 22nd annual banquet Saturday, January 11, at the firehall. Hann is a 10-year member of the fire company and serves as 2nd captain. He has been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 15 years and resides in Needmore.

Sgt. Michael Patrick of Houtzdale assumed command of the Pennsylvania State Police station at McConnellsburg effective January 4. Patrick replaces Sgt. Edwin Smith, who had been station commander here since May 1990.

Sen. Arlen Specter is wrapping up nearly 12 hours on the road. Between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, he had hosted six town meetings across 100 miles of southcentral Pennsylvania. At day’s end, about 100 people at Mount Union gave him a boost during their session. His other meetings Wednesday were in Columbia, Hanover, Gettysburg, Chambersburg and McConnellsburg.

Pennsylvania State Police from Mc- Connellsburg have no new leads in their investigation into a reported suspicious death alleged to have occurred here during the spring gobbler season in 1990. A 16-year-old Baltimore youth told police here on January 6 that he had witnessed the shooting of a turkey hunter by another hunter in late April or early May 1990 in a wooded patch near a field in Belfast Township.

Mrs. Yvonne Metcalfe celebrated her 90th birthday on January 14. Mrs. Metcalfe is a very talented seamstress and is kept very busy turning out designer creations for her many clients.

Many golfers, itching to start the season, were out playing on the Great Cove course over the weekend.

Danyelle Black of Wood and Larry Traxler of Hustontown were united in marriage November 2 at the United Methodist Church of Wood. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Bill Black of Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Traxler of Hustontown.

Mr. and Mrs. Preston Carbaugh are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Deonna, to Jeffrey Carmack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Carmack of Hustontown.

A surprise 25th wedding anniversary party was given in honor of Larry and Connie Hamil of Needmore by their children, at Pleasant Ridge Brethren Church social room. They were married December 29, 1966.

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Souders of Hancock announce the engagement of their daughter, Michelle, to Brian Shank, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Shank of Warfordsburg.

Denise Vrone and Timothy Walker were united in marriage November 2 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Reading. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Varone, Shillington, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walker of McConnellsburg.

Kim and Krissie Earley of Wells Tannery are proud to announce the birth of their sister, Crystal Lynne, at Memorial Hospital of Bedford County on January 4.
