Pfc. Devin D. Shives, son of Robbie Shives of Harrisonville, flew to Savannah, Ga., for the National Guard to work on the Ch-47E Chinook helicopter.

A chance meeting brought together two old friends when Tom Varden, formerly from Mercersburg, and now of California, home on business, fell and was hospitalized in Chambersburg Hospital. He was moved from one room to another at 4 a.m. The room was dark and as Tom was talking to the nurse a voice from the other bed said “Is that you Tom Varden?” The person in the other bed was Jim Hawbaker, who recognized Tom’s voice, and after many years of not seeing each other their stay in the same room together led to a lot of storytelling of fun times in the past.

A birthday card shower was held for Avon Deshong of Harrisonville, who turned 80 on January 13.

Janet Geyer, daughter Betty and Dwayne and Lynn Waite and family spent a few days last week in Massanutten, Va.

Jim and Marian Sickles will observe their 53rd wedding anniversary January 23.

Public Opinion weekly honor roll student-athletes were Jesse Gearhart, Forbes Road, and Tyler Green, Mc- Connellsburg, both for basketball.

Chambersburg Elks Hoop Shoot was held Saturday at Mc- Connellsburg Elementary gym.
