Max L. Brooks
Max L. Brooks, 83, formerly of Shade Gap, Pa., and more recently of Smithfield Township, died at 4:55 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona.
Born September 29, 1928, at Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Clair and Louise (Hagans) Brooks. He was first married to the former Joan L. Lang on August 8, 1948, at Huntingdon. She preceded in death October 30, 1990. He then married the former Chloe I. Grove on May 25, 1991, at Huntingdon. She survives at their home.
Also surviving are children: Kathy Wilson and husband Kenny, Three Springs; Susan Hall and husband Bobby, Burnt Cabins; David Brooks and companion Tonya Hileman, Shade Gap; Randy Brooks and wife Debbie, Burnt Cabins; stepchildren: Homer Kann and wife Debbie, Warrior’s Mark; Gary Kann and wife Debbie, Petersburg; Terry Kann and wife Margie, Hesston; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Ray Brooks, Huntingdon; 14 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a brother, Vance Brooks.
He was a member of the Petersburg Lutheran Church. He had also attended St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Shade Gap, and had helped with the construction of the church.
He was a member of the Shade Gap Volunteer Fire Co. and had been very active in the Shade Gap community.
He retired from Valley Rural Electric Co-Op after more than 30 years service as district superintendent at the Shade Gap substation.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2012, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. Rev. Tom Young officiated. Interment was at Germany Valley Cemetery, Shirleysburg.
