Oklahoma Firm Seeks Pipeline Across Southern Pa.
SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) – An Oklahoma firm has filed preliminary paperwork with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a 260- mile pipeline to carry Marcellus shale natural gas from West Virginia across much of southern Pennsylvania.
A spokesman for The Williams Companies Inc. tells the Daily American newspaper of Somerset the 36-inch pipeline would carry gas from Natrium, W.Va. to York County, in southeastern Pennsylvania. The company wants the pipeline to link up with another that already supplies natural gas to New Jersey.
The spokesman says the company plans to file a formal application with the commission late next year. In the meantime, the company needs to contact potential customers to see if the pipeline makes financial sense.
The company plans to begin meeting with land owners, municipal officials and environmental groups in the spring to see if any concerns arise.
