W. Pa. Red Cross Groups To Merge
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Two American Red Cross groups are merging so they can provide larger scale responses and services in western Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Monday that the group’s Southwestern and Northwestern Pennsylvania regions will merge into the Western Pennsylvania Region effective Sunday.
The new region will include 11 chapters that provide services to 25 western Pennsylvania counties.
Spokeswoman Lauren Chapman tells the newspaper that the agency is not cutting services or laying off employees, but is combining the regions to provide larger scale disaster services for the western portion of the state.
Chapman says, “We’ll have a larger pool of resources to pull from, combined volunteers, vehicles and supplies. We’ll have more expertise and more resources.”
