Judge John A. MacPhail, speaking for the last time as president judge of Fulton County at the opening of court on Monday, expressed his regrets at leaving and cited the improvements, both judicially and materially, which have been made here. After turning over the gavel to Fulton County’s new president, Judge George C. Epinger, both Judge Eppinger and Judge John W. Keller expressed their pleasure at having the opportunity to serve Fulton County and pledged themselves to work for is best interests.

Each year, the PA State FFA Association awards the Keystone Farmer Degree to the top 2 percent of its membership. This award is based on a boy’s excellence in farming program development, scholastic achievement and his leadership ability. Gary K. Decker of the McConnellsburg FFA Chapter is the winner of this year’s state Farmer Degree.

Craig Mellott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Mellott of McConnellsburg, has been busy in Harrisburg this week as a member of the State FFA Band. He is a senior at Mc- Connellsburg and officer in the McConnellsburg FFA Chapter.

Engagements: Mr. and Mrs. George Shotts Sr., Waterfall, wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Juniata Mae, to John E. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smith of Three Springs. Mr. and Mrs. William Lewis of McConnellsburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Alma Jean Lewis, to Harry Leroy Bivens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bivens of Big Cove Tannery.

Marine Private Roy Shaw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allison Shaw of McConnellsburg, has graduated from recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Mr. and Mrs. Clair Miller are spending a week’s vacation in Jamaica.

Van Ingram, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ingram, returned home this week from Turkey after receiving his discharge from the U.S. Army.

Airman Duane N. Mellott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mellott of McConnellsburg, has graduated at Lowry AFB, Colo., from the U.S. Air Force weapons mechanic course.
