Free Open Gym

McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will sponsor a free open gym at the alumni community gym every Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting January 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to walk, run or play. Last day will be Friday, March 9, 2012. Gym will be closed any time the Central Fulton School District is closed due to the weather. CARD NIGHT

McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will sponsor a free card night Saturday, January 14, starting at 6 p.m., at the alumni community building in Mc- Connellsburg. This is a free activity and all sorts of cards will be played, from 50 Bid to UNO, depending on what you want to play. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to be enjoyed by all who attend. Chambersburg Elks Lodge #600 local Elks hoop shoot will be held on January 14, 2012, at Mc- Connellsburg Elementary gym. Registration is as follows: All ages are as of April 1, 2012. Boys and girls 8-9 years old will register between 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., with competition starting at 9 a.m. (All 8- & 9-year-olds will shoot 11 a.m. from the hoop with a girls basketball.) Boys and girls 10-11 years old will register between 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with competition starting at approx. 10:30 a.m. Boys and girls 12-13 years old will register between 11 a.m. and noon with competition starting at approximately noon. Please join Special Olympics Fulton County at the McConnellsburg Alumni and Friends building Wednesday, January 18, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Special Olympics bocce ball. The competition will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This event is open to the public to raise awareness for the program, to gain volunteers and athletes and to have a lot of fun. Needmore Fire Co. EMS is sponsoring a trip to the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg February 7. Cost is $38 per person and includes motorcoach transportation and admission. To reserve a seat, contact Lisa at 717-294-6177. Senior Center Activities

McConnellsburg Senior Center activities for January are as follows: January 2 - closed; nickel bingo, 9:30 a.m. - January 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 18, 20, 23, 25 and 27; blood pressure screening, 11 a.m. - January 5; couch potato exercises, 11 a.m. - January 5, 12, 19, 26; lunch at Lincoln Way Pizza, 11:30 a.m. - January 5; nutrition class for seniors, 10 a.m. - January 17; lunch at Olde Town Kitchen, 11:30 a.m. - January 20; dime bingo, 9:30 a.m. - January 30; closed January 16. Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor a New Year’s hog shoot Saturday, December 31, at 1 p.m. Eleven regular rounds to qualify for hog shoot. Various meat prizes will be given away. Shells will be furnished. No guns with less than a 640 choke and no sleeved guns will be permitted. Guns may be checked if in question. Line Dance

Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated. Library Teen Night

Teen night at McConnellsburg library will be Friday, December 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please bring cookies or drinks to share. Wii, board games, movies, books and music available. Enter through community room door. Sweetheart Ball Tickets

Beta Sigma Phi Sweetheart Ball, is being held February 11 at McConnellsburg American Legion. The $35 ticket price includes dinner, gourmet desserts, dancing and live and silent auctions. Funds raised will be donated to Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance, which provides free services to breast cancer patients in Franklin and Fulton counties.
