Elmer E. Shoemaker
He was born March 3, 1919, in Montgomery Township, Franklin County, Pa.,A and was the son of the late Elmer E. and Lillian (Post) Shoemaker.
He graduated from Waynesboro High School, Class of 1937. He learned the wood patternmaking trade at Frick Co. and upon completion he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
After his discharge, he entered the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1949 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was an employee of Gulf Oil Corp. and later at Gilbert Associates in Reading, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Frances ( Alexander), to whom he was married for 56 years; a daughter, Barbara Kehr of Littlestown; and grandson Matthew; as well as a son, Frank of Allentown, and granddaughter Katherine and grandson Zachary.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Shuman and Ruth Cunningham, and a brother, Robert Shoemaker.
He was a member of Redeemer’s United Church of Christ, Littlestown, where he served as an elder and a trustee. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Prior to moving to Homewood, he lived in Littlestown for 17 years where he delivered Meals on Wheels and helped with the Food Pantry for a number of years. His interests included woodworking, genealogy, music, history, reading and his computer.
A memorial service to remember and honor a welllived life was held Tuesday, December 20, at 11 a.m., at the chapel at Homewood at Plum Creek with chaplains, Rev. Joel B. Hummel and Rev. Austin Chinault officiating.
