Charles A. Recard
Charles A. Recard, 83, Mont Alto, died at 2:38 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2011, in Chambersburg Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past three years.
Born June 10, 1928, in Beartown, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Clayton and Katy T. (Dull) Recard. He lived his early life in the Rouzerville and Waynesboro areas.
He graduated from Quincy High School with the class of 1946 and enlisted in the United States Navy V-5 program.
He and his wife, the late Jean L. (Verdier) Recard, were married April 22, 1950, in York, Pa. They moved to Park Street on March 31, 1995. She preceded him in death June 6, 2011.
He worked for 33 years at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro. Prior to retiring in 1988 he was a plant manager at Beck Manufacturing, Waynesboro, for 10 years.
He is survived by three children: Charles Mark Recard, Needmore; Pastor Jams C. Recard, Mont Alto; and Constance Jean Francis, Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Lugarda Recard, a resident of Michaux Manor; one sister, Pauline M. Rhone, Pond Bank; a stepbrother, Harold C. Recard, Wisconsin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Meta M. Jamison.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 17, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. His son, Pastor James C. Recard, and Pastor Richard Williams officiated. Burial was made in Mont Alto Cemetery. A Masonic funeral service was held by the members of Acacia Lodge #586 at 11 a.m., Saturday, just prior to the religious service.
