Salvation Army To Prepare Christmas Dinner

The Salvation Army Christmas Dinner Committee continues to prepare for the big dinner they serve Christmas Day. They have been collecting food and presents for those who either need a meal delivered or who will come to the door of the Salvation Army building at 159 Lincoln Way West in Chambersburg for dinner.

Although the meal and other preparations are done at the Salvation Army building, the committee wants to make sure the day does not take away from the great work the Army does throughout the year in feeding those in need. So any food donations are always appreciated.

Doors open at noon and dinner will be served until 2 p.m. Deliveries to shut-ins and others who need a Christmas meal begin normally between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

“We are looking for anyone who would like a meal delivered,” noted committee Chairman Lynne Newman. “We are, of course, also looking for donations for senior citizens and others who we hope to give a gift along with their meal.”

Many of those who receive a delivered meal would not have a Christmas celebration were it not for those who work so hard to prepare for the big dinner.

“I talk to so many people who are so appreciative of what we do, It makes us happy to be of help.” said Newman. “In today’s economy, there are so many who have so little, we hope we can make a difference in their holiday celebration.”
