The calendar shows the winter solstice occurs Sunday, December

22, and the weatherman is calling for some cold winter temperatures coming this way.

A fire of undetermined origin Monday afternoon destroyed a vacant house along Dutch Corner Road in Todd Township owned by Gerald Lake, McConnellsburg.

As of December 18, McConnellsburg Jaycees officially own the Central Fulton School Board’s old high school building at the corner of Maple and South Third Street. The Jaycees offer of $37,000 for the building was accepted by the school board and approved by the court. After the Jaycees made the offer, H.B. Mellott Estate Inc., through its officers, President Forrest R. Mellott and Chairman of the Board and CEO P.C. Mellott, donated the total $37,000 “in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the incorporation of H.B. Mellott Estate Inc. and the 50th anniversary of the graduation of the late Herman B. Mellott Jr. from McConnellsburg High School.

Monica (Fix) Seville and Jeanie (Fix) Sipes of McConnellsburg, each bagged eight- point bucks during this year’s antlered deer season. Monica got her buck the first week while hunting with her husband. Jeanie got her buck the second week while hunting with her husband. The women have been hunting since the age of 12 and have bagged many bucks. Their mother, Frances Fix, is an avid deer hunter also.

Alan and Lisa DeShong of Harrisonville announce the birth of a daughter, Brenna Elaine, December 8 at Chambersburg Hospital.

A courtyard garden on the campus of the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash., was the setting for the wedding of Penny Anderson and Ernest Rose on Saturday, September 14.

Stacey Shew and Christopher Shank exchanged wedding vows September 7 at Salem United Church of Christ, Waynesboro. Parents of the couple are Robert and Luella Shew of McConnellsburg and Lincoln and Margaret Shank of Waynesboro.
