Donated Toys Misreported As Stolen
LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) – A Toys for Tots official says a police report about donated Christmas toys being stolen from a central Pennsylvania business was wrong.
William Perkins, coordinator of the program in Lancaster County, said Friday that two people who picked up bins of donated toys at businesses in Mountville and Manheim were working for Toys for Tots.
West Hempfield Township police had said earlier that a couple claiming to be Toys for Tots workers stole toys from a donation bin on Dec. 2.
Perkins told the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era that a man working for Toys for Tots was not aware of the scheduled pickups and mistakenly told callers the toys must have been stolen.
