Cory Gress was approved to return to the helm of the Central Fulton School Board last week as part of the board’s annual reorganization process.

Gress was one of several individuals nominated and appointed to various positions on the board as well as boards of other related agencies during the December 6 reorganization, which was followed by the monthly meeting to address regular business.

In a follow-up nomination process, the board agreed Dr. Brent Carlson should serve in the capacity of vice president, while Hollie Garlock will continue as liaison to the Pennsylvania School Board Association.

In addition, Gary Shives will be joining the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit’s board of directors, and Chris Hann is slated to replace outgoing board member Linda Garber on the Fulton County AVTS Joint Operating Committee. Hann’s three-year term of office is scheduled to end in 2014. Furthermore, board member Ryan Richards will replace Shives as an alternate member of the AVTS board.

The board also set its meeting schedule for the upcoming year, and meetings will continue to be held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the district office conference room located in the McConnellsburg Elementary School. Work sessions and/or committee meetings of the board will be held at 6:30 p.m. prior to the regularly scheduled board meetings and on the third and fourth Tuesdays of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m.

In regular business, the board accepted a letter from the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Food Distribution pertaining to the district’s single audit report for the year ending June 30, 2010. The letter notes the district’s schedule of expenditures of federal awards was acceptable and the single audit report for program’s funding was approved.

Troy Harrison was approved to serve as a volunteer assistant track coach and was accordingly placed on the 2011-12 extracurricular salary scale. Meanwhile, Ginger S. Morgret, of Breezewood, was added to the professional substitute list after having completed an emergency certification process offered by TIU #11. Morgret’s clearances have been submitted and are in order.

McConnellsburg resident Amy Bishop was hired to fill the position of part-time personal care aide for the life skills classroom effective December 7. Bishop’s pay rate was established at $7.40 per hour as part of the motion.

Denise Mellott was authorized to take approximately 31 students to Fulton County Medical Center on Friday, December 16. The trip will be taken at no cost to the district.

In following the recommendation of the Budget and Finance Committee, the board agreed to increase the hourly rate of support staff by $1 effective January 1, 2012. Board member Ryan Richards abstained during the roll-call vote.

A new contract was penned with Sandy Deck Transportation in Harrisonville to provide transportation for a student attending the New Day Charter School located in Huntingdon, Pa., twice weekly. The contract will begin retroactive to November 7. In approving the matter, the board set the daily rate at $219.12 in looking at the per mile rate in conjunction with loaded versus unloaded miles. Board member Roger Strait abstained during the rollcall vote.

Fellow members Garlock and Shives were unable to attend the December 6 meeting.
