Small game hunters and archers will take to the fields and forests for the final time this year when the late small game and bow and arrow seasons open on December 27.
Robert C. “Buck” Weaver, 30, a wellknown local contractor, died tragically on Friday, December 17. The bulldozer he was operating ran over him, killing him instantly. Mr. Weaver was co-owner of P&W Excavating Co. of McConnellsburg and was working on a flood control project for the state at East Freedom, Pa., when the accident occurred. It is believed he was caught on the track of the vehicle and pulled around by the moving mechanism. He was married to the former Patricia Snyder.
At the December election meeting of Mount Zion Lodge, Preston A. Mellott of McConnellsburg was elected grand master to lead the organization during 1972.
Mrs. John (Alice) Lafferty will celebrate her 100th birthday on January 4. She is a former resident of Fulton County.

Mrs. Virginia Frey, 49, of Warfordsburg, reported to state police a frightening experience last Tuesday night at midnight when her home was broken into while she was alone in the house. The burglar first knocked at the front door and then walked to the rear door and knocked. He returned to the front of the house pried open a window on the front porch and climbed in. Mrs. Frey hid behind the bathroom door while the intruder went from room to room, both upstairs and down. He took $41 from her purse,which was on the kitchen table, and then left the house the same way he had entered, through the window. After he left, Mrs. Frey ran one-half mile through a field to her nearest neighbor to seek help.
Airman John C. Duffey, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Lyle Duffey of McConnellsburg, was named honor graduate in exercises held on December 14 at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, marking the completion of an eightweek course at the Air Force’s Fire Protection School.
Bonnie Walker and Raymond Santanna Jr. exchanged marriage vows recently. They are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond C. Santanna of Hershey and Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Walker of Harrisonville.
Barbara Decker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Decker of Harrisonville, is currently doing her student teaching at Richland High School.
