Beer Bottle Battle, It Seems Elves Have Won
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – A beer bottle battle over winter ales has ended, and it appears the elves have won.
The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports that two Pennsylvania breweries sparring over the word “elf” in their holiday beers will each continue using the term.
Troegs Brewing Company of Harrisburg, which makes Mad Elf Ale, wanted Bethlehem Brew Works to stop selling a beer with a similar name. Troegs had asked the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in January to cancel Bethlehem's registration of Rude Elf's Reserve.
Both sides confirmed Friday that the dispute had been settled, though neither party would discuss the details.
Troegs lawyer Harvey Freedenberg says only that both brewers will retain their elf logos.
Bethlehem spokesman Michael Fegley simply says Rude Elf's Reserve will continue to be sold.
