Police Pa. Woman Used Dead Friend’s Credit Card

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) – Police say a western Pennsylvania woman used her dead friend's credit card to spend more than $9,600 – including some cash advances that the woman told police she used to pay off the credit card's minimum balance each month.

Online court records don't list an attorney for 64- year-old Gail Marie Hoover, of Johnstown, who was arraigned Tuesday on 99 counts of theft and credit card fraud. Nobody was answering Hoover's phone on Wednesday.

West Hills Regional Police tell the Tribune-Democrat (http://bit.ly/ufTGZA ) of Johnstown that Hoover claimed she had the woman's permission to use the card before the woman died on Feb. 11, 2010, but police say the dead woman’s husband says that’s not likely.

Hoover is free on bond pending a preliminary hearing Nov. 30.
