Downtown Greets The Yuletide This Weekend

Shoppers asked to buy local at Christmas In McConnellsburg

The annual celebration marks the official start of the Christmas season and begins Friday at 11 a.m. in F&M Trust Co.”s Fulton Theatre on North Second Street in McConnellsburg. It continues Saturday in the same location from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Christmas In McConnellsburg offers holiday shoppers an opportunity to buy gifts, many handmade, close to home. Chamber officials say that 22 vendors and organizations will fill the theatre with a selection of unique gift items, including jewelry, personalized kitchen items, holiday popcorn tins, candles, scent bars, pet products, Christmas ornaments, woodcrafts, primitive items, handmade berry garlands, quilted items, potpourri, Rada cutlery, Avon, Pampered Chef, 31 Gifts, Fulton County crocks, baked goods and a whole lot more.

Santa Claus is expected at 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. Friday, and kids are invited to have their photo taken with him free courtesy of Lisa”s Photo Creations.

From 6 p.m. till 8 p.m., children can be ID”d by the CHIP child ID program that provides parents the means to quickly get vital information to emergency responders in the event of a child abduction. The IDing is made possible by Mount Zion Lodge #774, Order of Eastern Star #519 and Fulton County Medical Center.

Freedom Worship Center will complete Friday night”s shopping experience with Christmas caroling from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The theatre reopens to shoppers from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to shopping, free horse-drawn wagon rides will be offered from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., weather permitting.

At 11 a.m. Girl Scouts of Southern Fulton will sing Christmas carols, and at noon McConnellsburg Elementary School”s cast of “Bah Humbug, Scrooge”s Christmas Carol” will perform for shoppers.

Food is available for hungry shoppers both days of Christmas In McConnellsburg at several food concessions located outside the theatre. Chain-saw carving also takes place outside the theatre both event days, and inside the theatre both days gingerbread decorating for kids is planned.

Chamber officials remind visitors of Christmas In McConnellsburg to also check out the United Methodist Church”s “Walk to Bethlehem” free event Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church across from the theatre.

On Friday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days, stop by the Christmas open house at Better Days Animal League thrift store on Lincoln Way West in Mc- Connellsburg. Free cookies and cocoa, a raffle for a decorated Christmas tree and two more opportunities to have your kid”s or pet”s photo take with Santa are just some of what shoppers will find.
