Forbes Road Lions annual peace poster contest has been completed, and Hayden Mitchell, a sixth-grade student at Forbes Road Elementary, is this year’s winner. Hayden’s poster is among more than 350,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 24th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The Forbes Road Lions Club awarded Hayden $75 for first place; second-place winner Courtney Schoen received $50; and Alexis Seville received $25 for third place. Each of the other 26 Forbes Elementary sixth-grade students received $5 for participating.

Forbes Road Lions Club President Ed Mickey said he was impressed by the expression and creativity of the students at Forbes Elementary. “It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them. I’m so proud that we are able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions.”

Thanks to all students who participated; to Mrs. Black, Forbes art teacher; Mr. Swope, elementary principal; the sixth-grade teachers; and other staff members for their cooperation in this project.

The Forbes Road Lions will be distributing fruit baskets Tuesday, December 13. Anyone knowing of someone who should receive a basket or is new to the area may contact any Forbes Road Lions member or call 987-3296 or 987-3395 to have them added to the list.

The Teddy Thanos Memorial basketball tournament sponsored by the Forbes Road Lions will be held during Christmas break. All are invited to attend.
