County commissioners on Friday said they will talk to PennDOT about improving safety on Route 16 over Mercersburg Mountain in light of last week’s truck wreck, during which a tractor-trailer ran away on the moutain and crashed into the east end of Mc- Connellsburg.

After many years of sharing with Franklin and Bedford counties, Fulton County now has its own district conservationist once again. Last Monday, Kimberly Hummel, a native of Williamsport, went to work in the Fulton County Soil Conservation Service Office.

A number of workers were laid off Friday from the McConnellsburg Sewing Plant of Waynesboro Knitting. Unless there is a breakthrough soon in negotiations for a new contract for more work at the plant, the entire workforce will be laid off by the end of the first week in December.

Relatives and friends gathered at the Maddensville community building on November 14 for a surprise birthday party honoring Louise Madden on her 69th birthday.
