About 75 persons, including about a dozen protestors, attended the groundbreaking ceremonies held November 18 for the proposed new Southern Fulton Elementary School to be constructed near the village of Dott in Bethel Township.

A meeting on low-level radioactive waste and siting of a disposal facility for that waste drew a large crowd last Thursday evening, November 14. The meeting was moved from the county courthouse to the McConnellsburg High School auditorium to accommodate the crowd estimated at about 350 persons. Dr. Judy Johnsrud presented information on the waste and the siting process.

Central Fulton School Board last week acknowledged receipt of a $108,400 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s division of early childhood and family education to develop a family center for child development. The center will serve families with children age infant through three. A nonprofit organization, the Fulton County Center for Families Inc. has been formed to administer a variety of programs for children and families including the Family Center for Child Development program in the Central Fulton School District which is being funded by this grant.

JLG Industries Inc. reported sales for the first quarter ended October 31, 1991, of $25.1 million compared to sales of $25.6 million in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Carol Levin, team owner of Levin Racing, announced a driver change for her Charlotte, N.C.-based team. Tom Peck, Mc- Connellsburg native, will begin the 1992 Busch Grand National season with this team led by veteran crew chief Butch Enders. Peck began his promising career at age 17 on the dirt tracks of Pennsylvania and Maryland. Dedication and perseverance paid off for Tom as he racked up 13 track titles and more than 250 victories.

A dinner to celebrate the 55th wedding anniversary of Chester and Beulah Seiders of McConnellsburg was held at Needmore Firehall on October 26. The couple was married October 23, 1936.

Susan Souders and Kevin Mellott exchanged wedding vows August 31 at 11 a.m. at Needmore Bible Church. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parson and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Mellott.
