Defense Opens In Hit-and-run Of Man’s Wife
UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) – The defense is expected to begin in the trial of a western Pennsylvania man charged with homicide for allegedly running down his wife.
Forty-seven-year-old Ron ald Higinbotham has told 911 dispatchers and investigators that 30-year-old Carmen Higinbotham punched him then jumped out of his moving car before he accidentally ran over her on Route 40 in June 2009.
But Fayette County prosecutors dispute his claims that the woman's death was an accident, and a police expert has testified he was unable to replicate Higinbotham's version of the incident by pushing a crash test dummy out of a moving vehicle.
The Brownsville man also told the dispatcher his wife had cheated on him. But Higinbotham claims he didn’t purposely kill his wife and didn’t stop to help her because he panicked.
