Cowboys’ President Damon Schoen welcomed players, families and friends to the banquet. Schoen touted the commitment of the players and their families toward the success of the Cowboys organization. Schoen reminded attendees: “This is our fourth year, and every year we get better.”

Following the meal, head coach John Heuston stepped to the podium to recap the varsity season. Heuston called the season “the best in our history,” and reminded everyone that the team was just one score from playing for the HCPWFL superbowl that very night. As a former lineman, Heuston presented a special “ Lineman’s Award” to Koltin Deshong, recognizing his strong play on the line. Heuston noted that strong play by the entire line unit was key to the success of the varsity squad, even though those players are seldom recognized. Varsity players Dylan Gordon, Chase Novak and Aaron Schepis were also recognized for their accomplishments on the season. Aurora Webber was awarded the Courage Award for her play in multiple roles for the team and as the only female player on the roster.

Baker reported that this year’s squad of flag cheerleaders performed exceptionally at the cheerleading exhibition that same day prior to the superbowl games.

JV head coach Frank Sheffield then told the crowd how lucky he felt to have a team this year, since only seven players were initially registered as of the first practice. The squad eventually reached 14 players. Sheffield recognized each of his players for their individual contributions to the team, calling them all “ ironmen” for playing both offense and defense from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

Silver flag coach Edward Noguera thanked parents for their support during his first year as a coach. Noguera also commended his young squad for always playing with their hearts. Blue flag coach Jamie Sipes commended his players for their 8-0 regular season and hard work.

Pictures of all teams listing the players can be found in this edition of the News.
