Prison: Pa. Inmate Dies After Guard Struggle
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) – A Pennsylvania prison inmate is dead after officials say he struggled with guards after being restrained in a suicide prevention cell.
Officials say an autopsy will be performed on 25-yearold David Campbell after he died early Sunday morning after being restrained in a chair at Lehigh County Prison.
Authorities say Campbell had been behaving erratically and had to be pepper sprayed and restrained after refusing to change into a smock used to prevent inmates from hanging themselves with their clothes.
Officials say the combative Campbell had to be restrained in a chair. He became unresponsive and a nurse tried to revive him with CPR and an automatic defibrillator before he was pronounced dead at a hospital.
AP PG. Campbell was awaiting trial on charges he kidnapped and assaulted his girlfriend.
