With nearly 54 percent of the registered voters turning out for Tuesday’s municipal election, Republican Ruth Bolinger won a landslide victory to become Fulton County’s next prothonotary. Bolinger, who will be the county’s first woman to hold the prothonotary’s office, garnered 1,745 votes, nearly twice as many as her Democratic challenger, Ray E. Koontz, who received 871 votes.
In a move which JLG Industries calls “positioning itself for the future,” the Mc- Connellsburg-based firm laid off an undisclosed number of workers at its local plant last Friday.
Construction on the second mandatory truck stop on Sideling Hill Mountain, just below the PennDOT cinder pile, was started last week and should be completed this week. The paved pulloff will be for trucks over 21,000 pounds to come to a complete stop before continuing down the treacherous slope.
