Patricia Hershey of Hustontown was named Hustontown Volunteer Fire Co.’s Fireperson of the Year at the company’s annual banquet held last Friday, October 25. Hershey, a Shade Gap native who graduated from Southern Huntingdon High School in 1968, has been a member of the HAFCO company for eight years. She has held many positions within the company and currently serves as its financial secretary, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and rescue lieutenant. Her husband, Richard, was one of three HAFCO firefighters who died in a tragic well-cleaning accident May 1, 1990.

Races for county commissioner, county treasurer and county district attorney highlight the Municipal Election ballot next Tuesday, November 5. Incumbents Gary Decker and Robert Garlock, a Democrat from McConnellsburg, are seeking re-election as county commissioners along with former commissioners Donald Culler and Boyd Mellott.

Helen Overly and Freda Raker are featured as the cover story for the November 1991 edition of Apprise Magazine, a central Pennsylvania arts and entertainment magazine.

Ken and Sonya Peck of McConnellsburg are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Jenna Elizabeth, October 24.
