Lester L. Guillard Sr.
Lester Lawrence Guillard Sr., 91, formerly of Hagerstown, Md., died in his sleep Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Martinsburg, W.Va. He was taken care of by his grandson, Cody Grove, for the last eight months.
Born November 12, 1919, in Wells Tannery, he was the son of the late Lawrence W. and Carrie Mellott Guillard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie M. Karn Guillard.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He received a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge.
He retired in 1984 from Fairchild Industries.
He previously attended Valley Grace Brethren Church.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1936 and a former member of the Washington County AMVETS Post 10.
He is survived by two sons: Lester L. Guillard Jr. and wife Linda, Williamsport, Md., and Richard L. Guillard, Hagerstown; five grandchildren: Ronald Grove Jr. and Cody Grove, Leslie Guillard, Lauri Guillard and Larry Guillard III; six great-grandchildren; and son-in-law Ronald Grove Sr.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Marie Grove; a sister, Gladys Gandy, and a brother, Harold M. Guillard.
Services were held Friday, October 21, at 1 p.m., at Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Rev. Daniel J. Pritchett officiated. Burial was made in Rose Hill Cemetery. Graveside military honors were provided by Washington County AMVETS Post No. 10 and the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
