Irene E. Coons
Born October 25, 1913, in McConnellsburg, she was a daughter of the late John Elmer and Alice Annie Mc- Cullough Rhodes.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, Carlisle, and attended Shippensburg Church of the Nazarene. She volunteered at Green Ridge Village; she loved working on word searches, gardening, quilting and sewing.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and will be sadly missed.
Surviving are six sons; Thomas R., Marlin L., Jackie I. and his wife, Barb, David “Sonny” and his wife, Dixie, Johnnie A. and Stanley Coons and his wife Virginia, all of Shippensburg, six daughters: Dixie L. Weaver and her husband, Ron, Orrstown; Connie E. Kelley and her husband, Dexter, Newville; Darlene Kelley, Plainfield; Bonnie M. Armolt, Shippensburg; Alice Golden, Newville; and Dorothy J. Keefer, Shippensburg.
She was also blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Franklin Coons, who died in February 1974; three sons: Mikey, Frankie and Eddie Coons; one daughter, Mildred Atherton, and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 27, 2011, at 10 a.m., in Fogelsanger Bricker Funeral Home Inc. Rev. Todd A. Risser officiated. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be Wednesday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
