Elmer Mellott and his daughter, Connie, were recently in McConnellsburg visiting Elmer’s brothers, James and Norman Mellott, and their families. Elmer and Connie also enjoyed the festivities at the Fulton Fall Folk Festival while here.

Sympathy goes out to the family of Geraldine Helman, who passed away last week.

Dana and Dawn Seiders visited with their parents, Dane and Gwen Seiders, over the weekend.

Thew weather cooperated for most of the activities over the weekend. The trees were beautiful in their colors. The parade on Saturday grew a huge crowd.

Denny and Nancy Ritchey observed their 37th wedding anniversary on October 12.

Pat Mellott of South First Street was treated to an 80th birthday dinner in Greencastle recently by her family. Those attending were Denny, Nancy and Jason Ritchey; Rodney and Jackie Mellott of Florida; Jay Mellott of Memphis, Tara Ritchey of Washington, D.C., area; Chris and Heidi and son; and Parker and Alisha Hopkins and children.

Curtis and Donna Brant recently attended the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis. they sat in on several seminars pertaining to dairy life, attended numerous cattle shows and sales, toured farms and visited the famous Wisconsin Dells and other points of interest.

Public Opinion weekly honor roll student-athletes were Jess Gearhart and Shania Gelvin, Forbes Road field hockey; Jenna Hollenshead, Southern Fulton cross country; and Sarra Kendall, Mc- Connellsburg soccer.

Steve Mellott of Atlanta, Ga., visited with his uncle and aunt, Bill and Janet Geyer, over the weekend.

McConnellsburg Class of 1971 held its 40th reunion Saturday evening at Celebrations Unlimited. It was catered by Tea Time Tasties of Mercersburg. A total of 42 class members and guests were in attendance to enjoy the evening.

Steve Donahue and wife Sharon and children Jenny and John visited with Steve’s uncle and aunt, Lee and Sharon Glazier, over the weekend.

A surprise 50th birthday party was held on Saturday evening for Sandy Novak at the VFW. It was given by her family and friends.

It Happened This Week: In 1998 almost four decades after becoming the first American to orbit the Earth, John Glenn went back into space. He became the oldest human to travel in space at the age of 77.

McConnellsburg United Presybterian Church sponsored a hymn sing at the White Church on Sunday. A large crowd enjoyed hearing the Presbyterian Church’s men’s quartet.
