Big Cove Tannery, 89

C. Eugene Pittman, 89, Big Cove Tannery, died Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Hagerstown.

Born June 3, 1922, in Big Cove Tannery, he was the son of the late Mac J. Pittman Sr. and Amber T. Younker Pittman, and widower of Florence A. Dase Pittman, who died May 24, 2005.

He attended Laurel Ridge Christian Church in Big Cove Tannery.

He was a retired truck driver, employed by Southern States in Hancock.

He is survived by three stepdaughters: Diane Youker, Mercersburg; Carol Sloan, Hancock; and Patricia Borman, Hagerstown; four stepsons: Russell, James and Mike Hoffman, all of Big Cove Tannery; and Thomas Hoffman of Wasilla, Alaska; one brother, Mac Pittman Jr., Hancock; two sisters: Olive V. Rogers, York, Pa., and Naomi J. Reinhart, Berkeley Springs; grandchildren, nieces; and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alvira Pittman.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 10, at 2 p.m., at Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery. Rev. Dave Hamilton officiated. Burial was made in the adjoining church cemetery.

Grove Funeral Home in Hancock was in charge of arrangements.
