Eugene and Myrtle Lake celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday with family and friends. Donations given went to Buddies Food Bank instead of gifts. They were married on October 17.

Jennifer Kies Lowman of Florida is visiting with her mother, Jean Kies, and other relatives and friends in the area for a couple of weeks.

Mack and Barb Bishop will observe their 45th wedding anniversary on October 14.

Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene hosted a special service this past weekend with Rev. Charles and Lisa LaCombe.

A 58th wedding anniversary dinner was held Sunday at 30 West Restaurant for George “Simon” and Betty Mellott. It was given by their niece and husband, John and Rene Brink.

Glenn and Carol Layton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on October 14.

It Happened This Week: In 1860 11-year-old Grace Bedell wrote to presidential candidate Abe Lincoln advising him to grow a beard to look more handsome. He grew one after the election!

Tom and Melinda Howells will observe their 21st wed- ding anniversary on October 15.

Public Opinion honor roll student-athletes were Nikki Fleming and Libby Strayer, McConnellsburg soccer; Rikki Green, McConnellsburg volleyball; and Erin McQuait, Forbes Road field hockey.

Fulton Fall Folk Festival begins Thursday, with a parade in McConnellsburg on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. A variety of good food can be found all over the county.

An 80th birthday party was held for Bob Snyder on Saturday in the former Pepple’s Auction Barn, now owned by Craig Paylor and used for a hunting club. A great time was had by all. Bob and Darlene have moved to their house on Fourth Street and Dave and Heidi Newman to their house in the country.

Sympathy goes out to the Matthew Barclay family. Matthew lost his life on Friday in a car accident in Franklin County.

Bill and Janet Mellott Geyer observed their 54th wedding anniversary recently on September 28.

McConnellsburg Class of 1959 held a class reunion on Saturday in the alumni building, with 22 attending and having a good time.

Louise Long and family celebrated granddaughter Lydia’s birthday with a dinner on Thursday at the Oakhurst Tea Room in Somerset. Lydia lives in Pittsburgh.
