Secret Service Probing Fake $10s In Western Pa.
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) – Police in western Pennsylvania have asked the U.S. Secret Service for help after finding several “very good quality” counterfeit $10 bills being passed in area stores.
Greensburg police Capt. George Seranko tells KDKATV (http://bit.ly/pRVofv ) that anybody without training in spotting counterfeits would likely be fooled by the bills popping up recently in this city about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.
Seranko says a woman twice used some of the fake $10s to buy money orders at a local supermarket, and another woman in nearby Crabtree reported giving a woman a $20 bill in exchange for two of the $10s, which she discovered were fake when she tried to use them at a convenience store.
The most obvious sign the bills are fake is that they all have the same serial number: IG 04202976B.
