Child, 9, Driving Car Critically Hurt In Pa. Crash
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Authorities in Philadelphia say a 9-year-old boy was driving a car that crashed into a tree at the side of a major avenue, and he was critically injured.
The crash happened at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday on the outer northbound lane of Roosevelt Boulevard in northeastern Philadelphia.
Anthony Canalis told WPVI-TV that he saw the car veer out of control, hit the tree, and flip a couple of times.
Police said the boy was taken to Saint Christopher's Hospital with head injuries. He was listed in critical but stable condition.
Police say they do not know how the child was able to get behind the wheel or how far he drove.
