No Cuts, Higher Taxes For Rich

To the Editor:

It’s time that our nations wealthiest pay their fair share of taxes. It is disturbing to me that the members of the deficit-reduction Super Committee are even thinking about cutting Social Security benefits while allowing billionaires to pay lower tax rates than those in the middle class. Our own Senator Toomey (R-PA) is on that committee.

A recent bipartisan poll by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security (NCPSSM) and Medicare shows that 94 percent of Democrats, 82 percent of Independents and 64 percent of Republicans favor increasing taxes on the rich over making cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

I think the message is simple: No cuts, higher taxes for the rich. You can read this study if you go online to http://www.ncpssm.org/nocuts/.
