Mabel E. Griffith

Mabel Eunice “Grandma” Griffith, 102, Fannettsburg, died at her home Sunday, September 25, 2011.

Born November 2, 1908, in Fort Littleton, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Ashton and Mary Hilda Lessig Woolet.

She retired in 1968 from Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, Md., after 30 years of service building airplanes.

She was a 1926 graduate of the former Metal Township High School. In Mabel’s younger years, she enjoyed ice skating, horseshoes, sled riding, kickball and softball. More recently she enjoyed being everyone’s “Grandma” on Mix 95’s Rick and Lisa Morning Show as well s being with family and going to family gatherings; her positive outlook on life and memorable stories will be missed by all.

Surviving is her daughter, Alma V. Patterson of York, Pa., nine grandchildren: Virginia Cummins, Fannettsburg; Linda Woods, York; Gloria Carlin, Spring Run; Debra Kottcamp, Red Lion, Pa.; Paula Woods, York, Pa.; Donna Shoop, Burnt Cabins; Steven Lawver, Virginia Beach, Va.; Scott Woods, Orrstown; and Earl Guy Lawver, York, Pa.; 17 greatgrandchildren; and 18 greatgreat grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy G. Patterson; second husband, Robert L. Griffith; a son, “Buster” Patterson; granddaughter Barbara Witmer; three brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29, at 2 p.m., at Shady Pine Mennonite Church, Willow Hill. Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil will officiate. The family will receive friends three hours prior to the service in the church. Interment will follow the service in the Lower Path Valley Cemetery.
