Frances V. Koons
Mrs. Frances V. “Bant” (Toms) Koons, 89, a resident of Hearthstone Retirement Home and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died at 3:10 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2011, in Hershey Medical Center. She had been in failing health for the past week.
Born February 9, 1922 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Wellington and Jettie (Stuckey) Toms. She spent all of her life in the Waynesboro area.
She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1940.
She and her husband, the late Theron J. “Tood” Koons Sr., were married November 29, 1941, in Hagerstown, Md. They moved to their Potomac Street address in 1954. He passed away March 6, 2006.
She was a homemaker and was also employed part time at Williams Dress Shop, Waynesboro, for 23 years.
She was a member of Otterbein Church, Waynesboro and the mixed adult Sunday school class.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and craftwork. She was also a 50-year member of her 500 card club.
She is survived by two children: Theron J. “Jack” Koons Jr. of McConnellsburg, and Lacye Jane Shank of Westminster, Md.; four grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; one brother, Wayne Toms of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Koons; one sister, Violet Good; and one brother, Leo Toms.
Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor John Hoffman officiated. Burial followed in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
