Aside from a prolonged discussion on possible heating alternatives available to the district, the Southern Fulton School Board had a limited number of agenda items, mostly related to personnel, to address last Tuesday .

Pending the completion and submission of necessary paperwork, the board unanimously approved Kendall Desaulniers and Dean Wigfield to serve in the respective capacity of substitute teacher and substitute custodian.

Several individuals were granted authorization to serve in a variety of coaching positions, including junior high soccer coach Brian Mottern, volunteer color guard coach Jessica Large, junior high assistant boys basketball coach Jeremy Clingerman and game managers Wendy Ritz, Linda Schriever, Angela Booth and Heather Hollenshead.

In reviewing the coaching appointments with the board, Superintendent Kendra Trail noted the district did not receive any applications for the position of junior high assistant soccer coach.

In a separate motion, which resulted in an abstention by board member Allen Morton, the board also approved Kelly Morton to serve as a game manager during the 2011-12 school year.

In addition, Jessica Hull was given authorization to serve as a substitute teacher’s aide as well as an assistant volleyball coach. Hull was the lone applicant for the position of assistant volleyball coach. Board member Tim Hull refrained from voting on the matter.

Justin Sholes was appointed to serve as National Honor Society advisor as per the professional staff contract.

Multiple building and grounds requests were approved, including the Southern Fulton 4-H Club to use the elementary art room on Sept. 16, Oct. 28, Nov. 11, Dec. 9, Jan. 20, Feb. 24, March 23, April 20, May 18 and July 28, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., to conduct meetings.

The Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church will use the old elementary parking lot Oct. 29, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., for its Autumn Festival.

The elementary gym will be used by Southern Fulton Adult Basketball League Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 3 through April 30, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the board conducted an executive session to discuss real estate matters and student issues. No action was taken upon reconvening.
