It will be about two weeks before PennDOT decides whether or not to place a ban on heavy trucks eastbound on Route 30 through Fulton County. In the meantime, the commissioners are keeping pressure on the state to do something to make Route 30 at Sideling Hill safer by requesting the state police to detain trucks while school buses are making stops on the mountain.

Robert C. Jubelirer, the man who is likely to be the next state senator for Fulton County, visited this area last week on a business trip.

Jeffrey Mellott, a fourth-grade student at McConnellsburg Elementary School, is only 9 years old, but already is bent towards artistic talent has made itself known at the national level. He is the son of Randy and Aleatha Mellott of McConnellsburg and his drawing of the American flag was judged the best of all drawings entered by thousands of third-graders across the state in a competition sponsored by the AMVETS.

Sheep sold at an average of $174 per head at the 1981 Ram Lamb and Invitational Ewe Sale held recently at State College. Emil Mellott of Needmore attended the sale and sold a number of sheep from his prize-winning flock.

Carma Marie Killian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Killian, Shippensburg, and William Stafford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stafford Sr., Wells Tannery, were married August 22 in the Mongrul United Brethren Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Truax, Hustontown, were the guests of honor at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration September 3.

Births at the Medical Center: a son to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Strait of McConnellsburg on September 14; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Strait of Warfordsburg on September 15; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Younker of Hancock on September 15; twin daughters to Mr. and Mrs. Brian Scratchard of Blairs Mills on September 14; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Charles House of Mercersburg on September 14; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Sowers of Mc- Connellsburg on September 16.

Debra Hoffman of McConnellsburg and Timothy Shetrom of Huntingdon were united in marriage on July 31 in the First Baptist Church at Three Springs. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Mary Golden of Three Springs and the groom’s parents are Bonnie Shetrom and Bill Shetrom of Huntingdon.
