A young McConnellsburg man is lodged in the Bedford County Jail in connection with the stabbing of a young Mount Union man last Friday evening, September 13, outside the Mc- Connellsburg American Legion. Weldon Branche, 18, McConnellsburg, remained in Bedford County Jail Tuesday in connection with the stabbing of Ronald Grove Jr., 18, Mount Union. The incident apparently began as an argument over a 15-year-old female during a dance at the legion that evening.

A Johnstown camera crew working for The Nashville Network was in McConnellsburg last Thursday shooting footage for a feature on local Busch National race car driver Tom Peck which was shown nationally during Saturday’s TNN coverage of the Dover Splitfire 200. News of the camera crew’s shoot spread quickly, and all day long crowds gathered at the different shoot locations to take part in the action. Some of that footage shot here in McConnellsburg was shown during Saturday’s coverage of the Dover Splitfire 200. TNN also provided live coverage at the race with an interview with Tom Peck fan club’s representative Gary Grissinger and various shots of the 200 plus fans who attended the race.

The long, hot summer continues with temperatures well into the 90s and very little rain. But relief, they say, will come by the weekend in time to usher in the first day of autumn on September 23.

Rotz Meats Country Butcher Shop has undergone its first expansion and renovation in 20 years, expanding their salesroom and adding cheese, luncheon meats and other deli delights.

Ron Clippinger’s prowess as a fisherman was mightily tested last Wednesday at Lake Raystown when a quiet morning’s fishing turned into a tug of war between him and a 44-pound striped bass which he hooked on his line and which he managed to land after an a hour’s tough fight. The fish measured 47 inches and weighed over twice as much as the one caught earlier which weighed only 19 pounds and was 34 inches long.

Jill Garland and Curtis Hill were united in marriage July 6 at Needmore Bible Church. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Garland of Warfordsburg and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hill of Needmore.
