Free Coats

On Tuesday, October 11, at 9 a.m., at St. Stephen Catholic Church, free coats (some new and some slightly used) will be available. Also available will be household items (soap, toilet paper, etc.). Further information may be obtained by calling Sister Margie at 485-5917. Nut Sale

Nuts, nuts, nuts are being sold through the month of September by Preceptor Gammi Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi of Warfordsburg. For the third year, Terri Lynn mammoth pecan halves, medium pecan pieces, light walnut halves and pieces, deluxe mixed nuts and giant salted whole cashews can be pre-ordered by calling any member or by contacting Nancy Younker at 717-294-3507, Judy Eisaman at 717-485-5201 or Anna Maye Sigel at 717-573-2246. The 28th annual Fulton County CROP Walk will be held Sunday, October 2, at 2 p.m., at Cowans Gap State Park. Make Your Own Leaf Collection

Come join Fulton County Parks & Recreation Commission and ranger Shawn Lynn on Saturday, September 24, at 1 p.m. to make a leaf collection as Lynn identifies different leaves of Pennsylvania. The hike will be to benefit any school students in the county who need help with their leaf collections. The hike will be held on Route 928 about 1-1/2 miles off Rt. 522. Love’s Closet will be open Saturday, September 24, from 9 a.m .to noon, off the parking lot on West Market Street behind McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. The annual election of officers and voting for bylaws amendments will take place at the next regular meeting of FOVA on October 6. Fight Like A Girl Cancer Luncheon

The third annual Fight Like A Girl Cancer benefit luncheon will be held October 1, at Calvary Baptist Church Life Center. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and program starts at 11 a.m. A catered lunch will be served. Silent auction items and raffles will be available to raise funds for two local women with their struggles. This year’s recipients are Kim Kline Mowen and Lina Hoffman. Tickets are $15 each or $105 for a table (8 seats, one free). Door tickets will be limited. A new cookbook with 250 wonderful Fulton County recipes has been prepared by the Fulton County Historical Society as a fundraiser to cover renovation costs on the exterior of the 1851 Fulton County Jail building. All will be surprised at the variety of recipes from snow ice cream to haymaker’s switchel! The books will be available at the Fulton House for $10, or by mail with postage of $2.50 for the first copy and 50 cents for each additional one. They will make great Christmas gifts and also help preserve the old jail. AARP Safe Driving Course

AARP Safe Driving course is a classroom refresher course for safe driving and will be offered at Hustontown Senior Center September 28 and 29. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Both days of classes are required to be eligible for the three-year auto insurance discount. No testing involved. Payment is required before classes begin and checks can be made payable to AARP. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. To preregister call Peggy at 717-987-3770 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch is available by making reservations at the same number.
