HAFCO Open Stage

Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage on Saturday, September 24, at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and share their talent or come and enjoy the talent of others. Admission is free. Fort Loudon Fall Festival

A fall festival will be held Saturday, September 24, at fort Loudon Community Grounds. The event will begin at 3 p.m. and run throughout the evening. Available will be pulled pork sandwiches, soups, fresh-cut fries, funnel cakes, apple desserts, candy apples, cotton candy and games. Karaoke from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. “New Country Band” will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bring lawn chains. Car Show

A car show will be held Saturday, October 15, form 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Needmore Bible Church, 6939 Great Cove Road, Needmore. Open to all antiques, hot rods, customs, classics, trucks and motorcycles. There will also be a concession stand, bake sale, music, children’s games, door prizes and more. Judging is at 1:30 p.m. and trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Fulton County Community Christian School. Parade participants are welcome and encouraged to participate as registration is open until 1:30 p.m. To register or for additional information, call the school at 717-573-4400. Golf Tournament

Fulton County Pony League will sponsor its first golf tournament on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Great Cove Golf Course. Shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. and the cost will be $50 per golfer. The format will be a 4-person scramble with “don’t lose the baseball” holes. There will be hole-in-one contests, including a new car hole, and a putting contest with the grand prize of $2,500. Please come and support the county teams. Cut-off date for entering a team is October 5. Spots are filling up quickly and the maximum teams allowed will be 23. Tournament and contest sponsors are still available. The movie “Gaslands” will be shown at a special presentation of the FFDC movie night Friday, September 23, at 7 p.m., in the Fulton County Library. The movie warns about problems that fracking the Marcellus shale can cause for people and the environment. Free light refreshments will be provided. Quilt Club Retreat

Fulton County Quilt Club will hold its annual retreat Saturday, October 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the social room of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Mc- Connellsburg. Two classes will be taught: making crazy quilt blocks and fabric coloring and embroiderly. Items needed for the crazy quilt class are a 12-inch square of muslin, several colorful fabric scraps and a focal point fabric, sewing machine, thread, scissors, embroidery thread and needles. Items needed for the fabric coloring are white or light fabric with toneon tone design, crayons, sewing machine, thread and scissors. Please bring a covered dish to share. The 10th annual Cove Mills harvest reunion will be held September 23-25. Demos of threshing grain, baling straw, crushing stone, sawing lumber, making rope and more. Steam engines, antique, restored and unrestored tractors, featuring John Deere, hit and miss engines, old-time machinery and tractor parade, pony cart ride, kids pedal pull and kiddy train ride. Farm breakfast, apple butter boil, cider making, food venders, flea market, arts and crafts. bluegrass, gospel and country music. Southern Fulton High School will present the 3- act play “You Can’t Take It With You” by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman on Friday, September 30, and Saturday, October 1, at 7 p.m., in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students/children. Tickets will be on sale at the door or from cast members. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. both nights. on Sunday. Bring a chair and enjoy this exciting and growing show.
