Cumberland Valley Christian 2

McConnellsburg was awarded its first win of the fall 2011 season Monday night, squeaking out a narrow 3-2 victory over Cumberland Valley Christian. Teammates Corey Hill, Tristin Deneen and Jesse Swope each had goals during the nonleague match, while Casey Randler added an assist. Goalkeeper Nick Daniels totalled eight saves.

Forbes Road 4

Forbes Road fought back from a three-goal deficit Monday night, but the comeback against Belleville Mennonite was just a little too late. During the Cardinals 5-4 non-league loss, Chase Shaw led the offensive effort with two goals, and Michael Runk and Garrett Bard both added one goal. Bard and Runk also chipped in one and two assists, respectively.

Jesse Swope and Tristin Deneen both racked up two goals Friday to lead the Mc- Connellsburg Spartans onto a 4-2 non-league victory over Belleville Mennonite. Swope, Deneen and Beau Wilson also had assists during the match, which saw goalkeeper Nick Daniels block 10 shots in goal.

Northern Bedford 7

Southern Fulton 1

Southern Fulton only managed one goal in the opening half Saturday, while Northern Bedford rounded out the day with seven goals for the Sideling Hill League win. Chase Horton had the only goal for the Indians, while for the defense goalie Courtney Strait made 19 saves.

Forbes Road 2

Windber 1

Forbes Road picked up its first win of the season Tuesday evening, ousting Windber in overtime 2-1. Teammates Chase Shaw and Michael Runk both had goals for the Cardinals, who got assists from Shaw and Phillip Dodson. Goalkeeper Dalton Gilbert finished out the non-league win with 10 saves.

Forbes Road 2

The Greencastle Blue Devils outshot and outscored the Forbes Road Lady Cardinals Monday night for a 6-2 non-league victory. Lara Cromer and Corri Parsons both had goals for Forbes Road, whose defensive effort was lead by goalkeeper Jessica Gearhart with 11 blocked shots.

CD East 0

Forbes Road relied on some crucial goals by teammates Sammie Clippinger and Corri Parsons on Saturday to down CD East in the opening round of the Big Spring Tournament. During the 2-0 victory, Cardinals’ goalkeeper Jessica Gearhart preserved the shutout with five saves.

Forbes Road fell in the championship round to tournament hosts Big Spring Saturday, scoring only one goal during the 4-1 loss. Lara Cromer had the only goal for the Cardinals. Goalie Jessica Gearhart finished out the match with 12 blocked shots.

McConnellsburg blanked Cumberland Valley Christian Monday evening easily winning three consecutive sets by the score of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-16. Emily Watkins had another strong performance for the Lady Spartans with nine kills, three digs and nine aces. Jesscia Nero chipped in four kills, three digs and six aces, while teammate Rikki Green tallied five kills and three blocks. Gabrielle Danner recorded 15 assists, and Marley Jennings followed with three digs.

Southern Fulton 3

Hancock 0

Southern Fulton clinched its first win of the season Saturday when the Lady Indians downed Hancock, Md., in three straight sets. During the non-league victory, Abby Hawkins dished out 15 assists and added 22 service points and three aces. Teammate Kylie Covalt followed with three kills, nine services points and three aces. Whitney Ritz added nine kills and one block, and Emily Barton rounded out the match with nine service points.

Mount Union 3,

Southern Fulton 0

Unable to kick start their offensive effort the Southern Fulton Indians dropped their season opener to Mount Union last Tuesday evening in three straight sets. Abby Hawkins finished with seven assists and three service points for the Indians, while teammate Whitney Ritz added four kills. Melanie Deneen and Kylie Covalt had eight and six digs, respectively.

Northern Bedford 0

McConnellsburg opened up its 2011 season last Thursday defeating Northern Bedford in three straight sets for the Sideling Hill League victory. Emily Watkins tallied 14 kills, five aces and two blocks for the Lady Spartans, who also received 15 crucial assists from Gabrielle Danner. Rikki Green and Jessica Nero had five and four kills, respectively.

Southern Fulton 0

Southern Fulton’s season record fell to 0-2 with a 3-0 Sideling Hill League loss to the Everett Warriors last Thursday evening. Jenna Palmer rallied for two aces and two kills, and teammate Whitney Ritz added four service points and two kills. Melanie Deneen led her team in digs with seven, and Abby Hawkins and Emily Barton both chipped in four service points.

Johnstown Christian 0

McConnellsburg scored two goals in the opening half Friday and followed the halftime break with an additional seven unanswered goals for a 9-0 ousting of Johnstown Christian. Libby Strayer and Nikki Fleming were high scorers of the day with three and two goals respectively. Each girl also added an assist, while Sarra Kendall had one goal and two assists. Morgan Barclay, Anna Ott and Chelsea Danner all contributed goals, and Nicki McQuade and Sam Roberts both had assists.
