VFW Asks For Support During Limited Hours Of Operation
To The Editor:
VFW Post 655 will lose its ability to serve alcoholic beverages from November 7, 2011, to May 7, 2012, due to violations of Pennsylvania state laws concerning gaming regulations, admitting nonmembers, serving alcoholic beverages to nonmembers and allowing music to be heard more than 500 feet away. These gaming violations occurred starting July 7, 2010, and continued until February 11, 2011. On November 13, 2010, December 11, 2010 and again on January 22, 2011, nonmembers entered the club and were served alcoholic beverages and also on the same nights noise violations were made.
The board of directors accepts all responsibilities for these transgressions and a lack of supervision and oversight on club management. As of June 2011, the club has gained new board members as well as a new manager. With this new leadership, the club will attempt to stay open and serve food to members with limited hours during the suspension time.
We ask the community to support the VFW during this difficult time, and the VFW will continue to donate to various charities as much as possible.
