A Three Springs man was killed when his motorcycle left the roadway along Dutch Corner Road in Todd Township Sunday afternoon, September 8. Police said that Vance Kylor, 22, Three Springs, operating a Honda motorcycle, was traveling west on Dutch Corner Road, about 1.7 miles west of Knobsville when he apparently lost control of the cycle which travelled into a ditch off the left side of the road.

The local Jaycees are on the verge of taking the first hurdle in realizing the organization’s founding goal set down over 20 years ago to establish and maintain a community and youth activities center. The Jaycees plan to submit a bid of $37,000 for the Central Fulton School District’s old high school building at the corner of South Third and East Maple streets. Because the building is appraised at $47,000, court approval is required for the school board to sell below that price.

Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will mark its 25th anniversary with a daylong celebration this Saturday, September 14, beginning with a parade at 11 a.m. The day’s activities will include a firemen’s competition beginning at noon, followed by Rev. Francis Yarlett, a Methodist minister and the company’s first vice president, who was instrumental in the formation of the company in 1966 who will speak on the company’s formation and its history. Also held will be a barnyard rodeo, a talent show and, of course, good food and games for children.

Mike Wagner of Harrisonville drove his black No. 55 J&J chassis to the sprint title at Port Royal last Friday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sipes of Warfordsburg announce the engagement of their daughter, April Marie Sipes, to Timothy Donald Exline, son of Donald and JoAnn Exline of Hancock.

Joseph and Heather Hollenshead, Needmore, announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, Chelsey Leigh, on July 29.

Births at the Medical Center: a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Wadel of Concord, Pa., on August 30; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hampton of Doylesburg on August 31.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Keefer Jr. of Mc- Connellsburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Margaret, to Todd Andrew Hege, son of Robert and Dorothy Hege of Mercersburg. Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Keefer Jr. also announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebekah Elizabeth, to Brian Helser, son of Harry and Janet Helser of Fort Littleton.

Catharine H. Mellott of McConnellsburg, and formerly of Webster Mills, will observe her 88th birthday on September 12. She was married to Rankin J. Mellott, who passed away in 1985, and they operated a country store in Webster Mills for many years.
