Three Face Life After Conviction In PA Home Invasion
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Three western Pennsylvania men face life prison terms after being convicted of second degree murder in a home invasion and shootout with a police officer that left a mother of two dead last year.
Jurors in Allegheny County deliberated for less than five hours on Friday before convicting 19-year-old Amir Ferguson and 20-year-old Tyree Gaines of Wilkinsburg and 20- year- old Richard Woodward of East Hills of murder, reckless endangerment, robbery, burglary, and conspiracy.
Authorities say the three broke into a home where drugs and money were being stored in July 2010, and Ferguson fired at officers who answered 24- year- old Arika Hainesworth’s 911 call and also killed her. Lawyers for the other two defendants said they only intended to take part in a robbery, but prosecutors said all three were responsible.
