Receives Degree

Alison Brizius, daughter of Susan Foster and the late Jack A. Brizius and formerly of McConnellsburg, received her Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Chicago August 26. Her thesis involved the design and implementation of a telescope detector on the Chajnantor plateau in Chile as part of a multi-university program, and the collection of data on cosmic microwave background radiation in search of signals from the early, inflationary phase of the universe.

Brizius has moved to her new position as executive director of a National Science Foundation-funded Center for Robust Decisionmaking on Climate and Energy Policy. The center involves multiple institutions, including the University of Chicago, the Argonne National Laboratory, the Stanford University Hoover Institute and the London School of Economics.
