Pa. Family Settles Civil Suit Over Gas Drilling
WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) – A western Pennsylvania family has settled its lawsuit over claims value of its home was wiped out by natural gas drilling on neighboring properties.
The Pittsburgh Post- Gazette reports Stephanie and Chris Hallowich settled their lawsuit Tuesday against a trio of companies working in the Marcellus Shale.
The suit claimed the family’s health was adversely affected by water and air pollution from the drilling. It also claimed the Washington County property was rendered worthless by several nearby projects, including gas wells and a holding pond.
A spokesman for one of the companies, Range Resources, tells The Associated Press the family is selling the property and the companies will share use of the land. He maintains there were no problems with pollution.
The settlement contains a gag order on the family.
