11 Pa. Counties Targeted For Disaster Aid So Far
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Eleven Pennsylvania counties are on the list for potential federal disaster assistance, and officials say more counties may be added as the state recovers from Hurricane Irene.
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency said Monday the list so far includes Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Pike, Wyoming and Wayne counties.
Gov. Tom Corbett has asked President Barack Obama to declare the Pennsylvania counties disaster areas, the first step toward qualifying for federal aid.
PEMA spokeswoman Ruth Miller says federal, state and county officials are preparing to make a preliminary assessment of the statewide damage. She says that could take several days.
Corbett plans to fly over northeastern Pennsylvania to view the damage Monday, while Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley tours flood-ravaged areas of Bucks County, where he is from.
